Minister to open leading environmental exhibitions in Dublin

Faversham House Group, the organiser of the environmental trade exhibitions resource Irish Water Waste & Environment Show and recover Irish Recycling & Waste Management Show, is delighted to announce that Michael Kitt, TD Minister of State of Environment, Heritage and Local Government will be opening this year's shows on 24 March 2009 with an opening address

Held at Simmonscourt in Dublin, the shows will be open to environmental professionals on Tuesday, 24 March and Wednesday, 25 March, providing an industry platform to network, source and meet suppliers and to keep up-to-date in free CPD accredited seminars.

New to the shows is the 'Climate Change Theatre', providing presentations about sustainability strategies, carbon reduction measures and sustainable transport programmes. The seminars will be held by consultants and industry experts and complemented by case studies. Structural engineers Buro Happold and architects MosArt will give an introduction to passive housing and zero carbon energy performance in buildings. While Dr Sandy Smith from Sustain will talk about carbon foot printing of products and Faber Maunsell will give an overview of the Freight Best practice programme they are currently running in Scotland.

Other free seminars will look at updates in waste legislation and the market development programme as well as construction and demolition waste management. Looking at international waste management strategies and technologies, the afternoon sessions on Tuesday will explore ideas that could be adapted by Ireland. The Wednesday will see a series of panel discussions in the 'Waste Theatre', ranging from ways to meet the landfill directive targets over the operation of source separated collection schemes to compost marketing initiatives. Organised and hosted by CIWM Ireland and CRE, these seminars are CPD accredited by CIWM.

The third seminar stream in the 'Water Theatre' will look at 'Novel contaminants of emerging concern in the Irish aquatic environment: Identification, effects, treatment & regulation', concentrating on the treatment of pharmaceutical and chemical particles found in water.

In addition, more than 150 suppliers will showcase their innovative and established environmental products and services. Amongst others resource & recover will see the launch of the following products and services: the Lock Patch System to easily repair cracks in drains and pipes (McAllister Brothers), the new water treatment process CATADOX (ESCO International), the Grit Recovery Plant for grit from street sweeping (Huber Technology), the new recycling service for computer equipment (Folamh) as well as a new German bio-gas technology (Celtic Composting Solutions).

Also on display will be the BigBelly Bin, a solar powered waste compacting bin which is for example in use at Trinity College in Dublin.
