Sustainable water management to top the bill at IWEX

With this year’s IWEX (1-3 May) fast approaching the main elements of what promises to be an informative and thought provoking programme are now in place.

Building on growing concerns about our impact on the natural environment, the theme for the high-level conference programme at IWEX in 2007 is Sustainable Water Management. Co-hosted by the Environmental Industries Commission the morning will focus on the Future of the Water Environment, while the afternoon will cover Water Efficiency and the Periodic Review.

In addition to the conference programme, a series of free seminars and practical workshops will run across all three days of the IWEX event. Already confirmed are sessions on Water Efficiency for Businesses, hosted by Envirowise; Cost effective Use of Trenchless Technology, hosted by TT-UK; Water Resource Efficiency and its Implications, hosted by NISP; Energy Saving Steps for Water Operators, hosted by ABB; Barriers to Innovation in the UK Water Industry, hosted by British Water and UKWIR with PREST and Implementing Risk Management in the Utility Sectors, hosted by Cranfield University. On the Thursday there are also a series of sessions around skills and training in the water, waste, gas and electricity industries.

Organised by Faversham House Group and taking place at the NEC in Birmingham, this year’s IWEX forms part of Sustainabilitylive! – the UK’s largest forum for excellence and innovation in water, environment, land and energy. For the first time, IWEX will co-locate with ET&ES – the Environmental Technology and Services Exhibitions, Nemex – National Energy Management Exhibition, and ICU – the International Clean-Up event tackling the issues of contaminated land, remediation and regeneration.

Catherine Iredale, exhibitions director of Faversham House Group, commented: “For the first time everybody working in the water, environment, land and energy sectors will be able to find the knowledge, inspiration and answers they need all in one place. The event will give visitors the opportunity to gather the latest industry and legislative news and network with their peers. By bringing these events together, we hope to make it easier for people working across these sectors to maximise the value of their time out of the office.”

For CIWEM members, there are a number of seminar sessions taking place at these other events which may be of interest, particularly those at ET&ES. These include sessions from Defra on their Simplification Initiative to implementing better regulations and the Chemical Industries Association on REACH. Thursday includes a panel debate on Environment and the Law - Meeting the Challenges of the Changing Landscape. The Environment Agency is also making a welcome return to the event as a major exhibitor, hosting a seminar session on New Approaches to Permitting: Reducing Industry’s Administrative Burden, as well as Briefing Sessions on their stand.
Joining the Environment Agency at ET&ES will be WSP Environmental, UKTI, BSI Management Systems and Envirowise. While IWEX has attracted key players from the water industry such as Hydro International, Brightwater Engineering, Veolia Water Technologies & Solutions, and NORIT.

Catherine Iredale added: “We’re obviously delighted that some of the industry’s biggest names have signed-up to attend the events. When coupled with our features programmes, which have been developed to cover the most salient issues facing the industries today, we’re confident that Sustainabilitylive! will provide invaluable insights and networking opportunities.”
