Scotland Road Show is a success

The recent forum for Scotland’s roads industry ended on a high at closing time on the 27th October.

For just two days professionals from the far reaches of Scotland travelled to Edinburgh for Road Expo 2005 and the Scottish Executive Conference. Amongst these were high profile speakers including Heads of the Local Authority Partnership Team; the Maintenance and Strategy Branch; and Contracts Policy at the Scottish Executive and representatives from Dumfries and Galloway Council; Dundee City Council and TRL.

Topics under discussion were the Transport Scotland Act, Sustainability Initiatives in Scotland, Roads PPP and Asset Management. One of the many highlights of the conference was the debate ‘Are Utilities Destroying our Roads?’ which is due to be repeated at the next Road Expo in London on the 18 – 19 January 2006. John Howison, Head of Trunk Roads Design & Construction Division at the Scottish Executive had this to say… ‘At a time when there is so much going on that will affect the future of roads and transport in Scotland, I was delighted at the opportunity that Road Expo Scotland gave to disseminate what the Scottish Executive were doing, and the broad range of visitors attending the event, who could take these messages to the point where public services were being delivered’.

The show proved to be a comprehensive forum for those in the roads industry with visitors making comments such as ‘…a brilliant, informative and useful show’, Drew Hill, Senior Engineer, Scottish Executive.

Road Expo is a series of regional events in the UK and Ireland catering for professionals involved with the planning, building, management and maintenance or roads. The events are supported and led by the Highways Agency, the Institute of Highway Incorporated Engineers, the Institution of Highways & Transportation, TRL, the County Surveyors Society and the Scottish Executive.

Industry Professionals in London and the North of England can visit the show and its Highways Agency led Conference at Chelsea Football Club, Stamford Bridge on the 18 – 19 January or at the Lancashire County Cricket Club on the 8 – 9 February. The event will also take place at the RDS in Dublin on the 8 – 9 March running alongside, CIVILEX, Ireland’s only dedicated Civil Engineering exhibition.
