Builders Merchants Journal is the UK’s oldest-established and most respected magazine for builders merchants and their suppliers. It covers merchants, market trends, product developments, business analysis and industry gossip – and through its recently launched website, it is developing a new emphasis on hard news and on reader involvement.

BMJ also has a high profile in the industry as the organiser of the annual BMJ Golf Classic, and as the sole media partner in the annual builders merchants conference.

This is a flagship magazine for Faversham House, and it needs an editor of appropriate status: someone who can draw on a broad base of editorial experience to maintain the magazine’s level of authority as well as developing new editorial-led projects.

The ambassadorial role is particularly important, because the merchant market is one which runs very much on personal relationships. BMJ’s editor has to be out in the market constantly, representing the magazine at social functions, conferences and other industry events, and being seen to be deeply involved in the concerns of merchants and their suppliers. Equally important is working with the website editor to develop new projects which exploit the strengths of both media and which benefit both media.

The job is based in Croydon. Salary is open to discussion, but always competitive, and there’s a good package of benefits including a car.
